about
The Perfection of the Ideal. The Corruption of the Mind.
Escaped from Deepest Darkness, yet I find
a darkness sought controls my thoughts and feet.
I journey not through labyrinth, but still lost
am I: a Trav’ler in a Land Alone,
no sign by which another soul is seen,
the Dust of Death and that which comes before
the Spark of Life has even been conceived.
A dull Horizon is my only Hope.
Part II: The Dark Tower
Roland has slipped into a fever dream. He is no longer seeking his King’s army across the fields of France, but a mysterious Dark Tower in the far depths of a barren wasteland, set on his way by a Man in Shadow who may or may not be waiting there for him. Even in his madness, he knows his madness, but not its source.
lyrics
“‘Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came!’
Heed the words of the Man in Shadow:
‘All your dreams you will find in the highest
Room of that darkling spire!’”
But I no longer trust his words,
And I am not sure which is worse:
This barren earth lying black beneath my feet
Or this endless sky with a sun that never sleeps.
“Childe Roland they will forget your name!”
Whispered out from every shadow
“All your dreams of glory futile
Transposed to darkling nightmare!”
I cannot trust these thoughts of mine.
Is this all real or some design?
A vision cast upon my mind to lead astray?
Or is this truth that no waking could escape?
This is all have.
There is nothing left!
All my life has built to this journey.
Even if it’s false,
Gossamer and rot,
I will not elude this doom apportioned.
Run with aching feet,
Chasing destiny:
“Draw the slughorn forth and
Loose a mighty bellow!”
Losing sanity,
Quest eternally:
“In this desolation,
You will search forever!”
“Forever gray in this twilit wasteland,
Madness is the wine you carry.
Drink it now to soothe the aching
Misery of hubris humbled!”
How long can I yet carry on?
These voices sing my requiem.
“Embrace the chaos from this prison you’ll be freed.
Don’t trust your memories consciousness will only lead
You
False!”
“Truth is-
Nothing!
Purpose-
Undone!
All is-
Ruin!
You will-
Submit!
Spirit-
Broken!
Childe
Roland!”
“Glory-
Over!
Bastard
Roland!”
I should have never trusted that old man;
I’ve wasted 6 months of my life!
And what do I have to show for it?
Nothing but scars and burns tracing across my entire body!

This album being played over the PA system at the museum where Salvador Dali's "The Persistence of Memory" is housed is what caused the faces of the clocks in the painting to melt. meeko

This album is amazing! I'm so grateful that this band was recommended to me. The beautiful melodic tunes combined with the gutteral heaviness that the band brings is incredible. Can't pick a fave track just yet. Let me have another 100 listens before I choose... ;) Matthew Skipworth

Abigail Williams has had a weird career with hiatuses and lineup changes, but they have finally perfected their sound on Walk Beyond the Dark. This album has such a refreshing and natural feeling that makes it one of the top atmospheric black metal albums of recent years. Ryan
